It’s always a task for me, he said. The beauty of being an athlete is that there is a plan, there is something you have to execute, and it’s very repetitive. In qualifying, you’re always trying to do something better than what you’ve done before, and what you have just done was the absolute limit of what you’re capable of doing— so you’re peering off into a dark abyss. It is fundamental for me to concentrate as hard as I can and eliminate all outside interferences. It is a high sensitivity of mind and body, a combination of the two that gives you the performance.
