The Golf Bet (contd)
I did it!
It took me over 10 hours, but I shot an 87, 91, and 91— using a 7 iron and a putter. I’ll never forget the look on the guy’s face at the pro-shop when we explained what we were doing. He thought we were nuts. It took some serious convincing to get two golf carts for people who weren’t even playing.
Because of the distance constraint, it was tough to hit a green in regulation. My strategy was to get on in 3 and 2 putt. It worked out well. I had one three putt (amazing since I’m not known for my short game). I landed in one greenside bunker. Getting out was interesting, to say the least.
If it was hot, or if I had to play a 4th round, I’m not sure I would have made it. The first two rounds were easy, but carrying a full bag really wore me down. I found myself sitting down (even laying at one point) in the fairway on a few holes. I probably won’t be going very far from the couch tomorrow. It was one of the more physically challenging things I’ve done, and I’m in pretty good shape!
I’m glad I won this bet, but I won’t be signing up to repeat the feat.
